Shelf Life: 12 months
Background: Malate Dehydrogenase (MDH) (EC 1.1.1.37) is an important enzyme which reversibly converts L-malate into oxaloacetate in the presence of NAD. In eukaryotic cells, malate dehydrogenase has 2 isoforms: MDH1 and MDH2. MDH1 is cytosolic & participates in the malate-aspartate shuttle, which transports malate into mitochondria for utilization in ATP generation whereas MDH2 is a mitochondrial enzyme and part of the citric acid cycle. MDH activity is increased in some neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, and abnormal MDH activity in serum can serve as a tool for severe liver damage (e.g. Hepatocellular carcinoma). In MyBioSource's Malate Dehydrogenase Activity Assay kit, MDH reacts with malate to form an intermediate. The generated intermediate reacts with MDH Developer to form a colored product with strong absorbance at 450 nm. The assay is simple, sensitive and can detect less than 0.5 mU of MDH activity in various sample types.
Summary: Detection method- Absorbance (450 nm)
Applications- - Measurement of malate dehydrogenase activity in various tissues/cells - Analysis of citric acid cycle and malate-asparate shuttle
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Encodes a protein with NAD-dependent malate dehydrogenase activity, located in chloroplasts.
Uniprot Description
Catalyzes a reversible NAD-dependent dehydrogenase reaction involved in central metabolism and redox homeostasis between organelle compartments (Probable). Plays a key role in the metabolism of dark chloroplasts and non-green plastids. Essential for embryo viability (PubMed:24198233, PubMed:24453164). Plays an essential role in heterotrophic metabolism in embryos, and autotrophic metabolism in photosynthetic tissues as well (PubMed:24453164).

Product Notes
The MDH at3g47520 (Catalog #AAA841658) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Measurement of malate dehydrogenase activity in various tissues/cells Analysis of citric acid cycle and malate-asparate shuttle. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MDH at3g47520 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Malate Dehydrogenase, Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
