Related Product Information for Ahcy assay kit
Product Information: Adenosylhomocysteinase (AHCY) Activity Fluorometric Assay Kit: Only kit on the market to measure AHCY activity. Rapid and convenient, Detection limit: 1 uU recombinant human AHCY, 100 assays.

Background: Adenosylhomocysteinase (AHCY) (EC 3.3.1.1) or S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (SAHH); is an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible hydrolysis of S-Adenosyl Homocysteine (SAH) to adenosine and homocysteine. AHCY regulates the intracellular SAH concentration which in turn regulates S-adenosyl methionine (SAM)-dependent methyltransferases. Down-regulation of AHCY has been associated with certain forms of cancer and Huntington's disease, while in Wilson's disease; the enzyme is inhibited by the accumulated copper. Mutations in the AHCY gene cause SAHH deficiency disease. MyBioSource's AHCY Activity Assay kit can kinetically measure AHCY activity by detecting adenosine generation resulting from the hydrolysis of SAH. Adenosine is detected via a multi-step reaction, resulting in the generation of an intermediate that reacts with the OxiRed Probe. The fluorescent product is measured at Ex/Em = 535/587 nm. Limit of quantification (L.O.Q) is 1 uU recombinant human AHCY.

NCBI Description

enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of S-adenosylhomocysteine to form adenosine and homocysteine [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

SAHH: Adenosylhomocysteine is a competitive inhibitor of S- adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyl transferase reactions; therefore adenosylhomocysteinase may play a key role in the control of methylations via regulation of the intracellular concentration of adenosylhomocysteine. Defects in AHCY are the cause of hypermethioninemia with S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase deficiency (HMAHCHD). A metabolic disorder characterized by hypermethioninemia associated with failure to thrive, mental and motor retardation, facial dysmorphism with abnormal hair and teeth, and myocardiopathy. Belongs to the adenosylhomocysteinase family.

Product Notes

The Ahcy ahcy (Catalog #AAA841507) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Detection of AHCY activity. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Ahcy ahcy for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Adenosylhomocysteinase (AHCY), Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
