NCBI Description

glycine receptor strychnine binding subunit; generates glycine gated strychnine sensitive chloride current in the central nervous system [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Glycine receptors are ligand-gated chloride channels. Channel opening is triggered by extracellular glycine (PubMed:1716350, PubMed:11981023, PubMed:2483325, PubMed:3037383). Channel opening is also triggered by taurine and beta-alanine (PubMed:1716350). Channel characteristics depend on the subunit composition; heteropentameric channels are activated by lower glycine levels and display faster desensitization. Plays an important role in the down-regulation of neuronal excitability. Contributes to the generation of inhibitory postsynaptic currents. Channel activity is potentiated by ethanol (). Potentiation of channel activity by intoxicating levels ot ethanol contribute to the sedative effects of ethanol ().

Product Notes

The Glra1 glra1 (Catalog #AAA422956) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-Glycine receptor, alpha 1 (intracellular) Antibody reacts with Tested: Mouse, Rat; Expected from sequence similarity: Human, Mouse, Rat, Dog, Pig, Cow and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Glycine receptor, alpha 1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB). Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 128000. Western Blot: Approx 60kDa band observed in Mouse and Rat Testis lysates (calculated MW of 51.7kDa according to Mouse NP_065238.2). The observed molecular weight corresponds to the glycosylated form. Recommended concentration: 0.3-1ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the Glra1 glra1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: CLQAKDGISV KGAN. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glycine receptor, alpha 1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
