Quality Control Tests: Western blots performed on each lot.
Antigen
Peptide corresponding to amino acid residues from the C-terminal region of rat GAT-2.
Biological Significance
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, causing a hyperpolarization of the membrane through the opening of a Cl?channel associated with the GABAAreceptor (GABAA-R) subtype.GABA plasma membrane transporters (GATs) influence synaptic neurotransmission by high-affinity uptake and release of GABA. To date, four distinct GABA transporters have been identified: GAT-1, GAT-2, GAT-3, and BGT-1. GAT-2 is found in a wide range of neuronal and non-neuronal cells including dendrites and axon terminals as well as epithelial cells and cells forming the pia and arachnoid complex (Conti et al., 1999).
Preparation and Storage
For long term storage -80°C is recommended, but shorter term storage at -20°C is also acceptable as aliquots may be taken without freeze/thawing due to the presense of 50% glycerol. Stock solution are stable for a minimum of 1 year at -20°C.

NCBI Description

high-affinity gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transporter; terminates biological actions of GABA by reuptake into cell; reuptake function utilizes sodium and chloride concentration gradient [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

Function: Sodium-dependent GABA and taurine transporter. In presynaptic terminals, regulates GABA signaling termination through GABA uptake. In the liver, may be the major contributor for GABA uptake. Also involved in beta-alanine transport. Ref.2

Subcellular location: Cell membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein Ref.2.

Tissue specificity: Brain, retina, and peripheral tissues. Expressed in hepatocytes (at protein level). Ref.2

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the sodium:neurotransmitter symporter (SNF) (TC 2.A.22) family. SLC6A13 subfamily. [View classification]

Product Notes

The SLC6A13 slc6a13 (Catalog #AAA502039) is an Antibody and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's GABA Transporter (GAT) 2 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:100 IHC: 1:100 Quality Control Tests: Western blots performed on each lot. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SLC6A13 slc6a13 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "GABA Transporter (GAT) 2, Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
