NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the peroxiredoxin family of peroxidases. The encoded protein is a bifunctional enzyme that has glutathione peroxidase and phospholipase activities. This protein is an antioxidant that reduces peroxidized membrane phospholipids and plays an important role in phospholipid homeostasis based on its ability to generate lysophospholipid substrate for the remodeling pathway of phospholipid synthesis. Mice lacking this gene are sensitive to oxidant stress, have altered lung phospholipid metabolism and susceptible to skin tumorigenesis. Alternate splicing of this gene results in multiple transcript variants. A pseudogene of this gene is found on chromosome 4. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014]

Uniprot Description

PRDX6: Involved in redox regulation of the cell. Can reduce H(2)O(2) and short chain organic, fatty acid, and phospholipid hydroperoxides. May play a role in the regulation of phospholipid turnover as well as in protection against oxidative injury. Belongs to the AhpC/TSA family. Rehydrin subfamily.

Product Notes

The PRDX6 prdx6 (Catalog #AAA2097674) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Recombinant Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) reacts with Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Positive Control, Immunogen, SDS-PAGE, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PRDX6 prdx6 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Peroxiredoxin 6 (PRDX6), Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
