Biological Significance
Synapsin I plays a key role in synaptic plasticity in brain (Feng et al., 2002; Nayak et al., 1996). This effect is due in large part to the ability of the synapsins to regulate the availability of synaptic vesicles for release. In addition to its role in plasticity, the expression of synapsin I is a precise indicator of synapse formation (Moore and Bernstein, 1989; Stone et al., 1994). Thus, synapsin I immunocytochemistry provides a valuable tool for the study of synaptogenesis. The role of synapsin in synaptic plasticity and in synaptogensis is regulated by phosphorylation (Jovanovic et al., 2001; Kao et al., 2002).
Preparation and Storage
For long term storage -20 degree C is recommended. Stable at -20 degree C for at least 1 year

Uniprot Description

Function: Neuronal phosphoprotein that coats synaptic vesicles, binds to the cytoskeleton, and is believed to function in the regulation of neurotransmitter release. The complex formed with NOS1 and CAPON proteins is necessary for specific nitric-oxid functions at a presynaptic level

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Homodimer. Interacts with CAPON. Forms a ternary complex with NOS1. Isoform Ibinteracts with PRNP

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Cell junction › synapse. Golgi apparatus

By similarity.

Domain: The A region binds phospholipids with a preference for negatively charged species

By similarity.

Post-translational modification: Substrate of at least four different protein kinases. Phosphorylation may play a role in the regulation of synapsin-1 in the nerve terminal.Phosphorylation at Ser-9 dissociates synapsins from synaptic vesicles

By similarity.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the synapsin family.

Product Notes

The SYN1 syn1 (Catalog #AAA502117) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Synapsin I reacts with Human, mouse, rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Synapsin I can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP). Quality Control: Western blots performed on each lot. WB: 1:1000 IHC: 1:1000 IF: 1:1000 IP: 1 ug per 200 ug lysate. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the SYN1 syn1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Synapsin I, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
