Background: NFkB p100 (Nuclear factor NF-kappa-B p100 subunit also known as NFkB2 p100) is a member of the NFkB family of transcription factors that are involved in processes such as inflammation, immunity, differentiation, cell growth, tumorigenesis and apoptosis. The family also includes c-Rel, RelA (NFkB p65, NFkB3) and RelB (I-Rel). Rel proteins form dimers with the NFkB p50 (proteolytically processed from p105/NFkB1) and p52 (proteolytically processed from p100/NFkB2) members of the NFkB family that bind DNA and activate transcription. The NFkB p65/p50 heterodimer is the most abundant form of NFkB.
