NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
likely component of the classical pathway of the complement cascade; may be involved with tissue injury associated with ischemia or sepsis; may be a component of the membrane attack complex [RGD, Feb 2006]
Uniprot Description
C5: Activation of C5 by a C5 convertase initiates the spontaneous assembly of the late complement components, C5-C9, into the membrane attack complex. C5b has a transient binding site for C6. The C5b-C6 complex is the foundation upon which the lytic complex is assembled. Defects in C5 are the cause of complement component 5 deficiency (C5D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. An association study of C5 haplotypes and genotypes in individuals with chronic hepatitis C virus infection shows that individuals homozygous for the C5_1 haplotype have a significantly higher stage of liver fibrosis than individuals carrying at least 1 other allele (PubMed:15995705).

Product Notes
The C5a c5 (Catalog #AAA6460702) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The C5a, NT (Anaphylatoxin C5a Analog, Anaphylatoxin C5a, C5, C5a, Complement C5, Complement Component C5, Complement Component C5a, CPAMD 4, CPAMD4) (MaxLight 650) reacts with Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's C5a can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the C5a c5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "C5a, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
