NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a type II membrane protein that catalyzes the transfer of sialic acid from CMP-sialic acid to galactose-containing substrates. The encoded protein is normally found in the Golgi apparatus but can be proteolytically processed to a soluble form. This protein is a member of glycosyltransferase family 29. Mutations in this gene have been associated with autosomal recessive nonsymdromic mental retardation-12 (MRT12). Multiple transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]
Uniprot Description
ST3GAL3: Catalyzes the formation of the NeuAc-alpha-2,3-Gal-beta- 1,4-GlcNAc-, NeuAc-alpha-2,3-Gal-beta-1,3-GlcNAc- or NeuAc-alpha- 2,3-Gal-beta-1,3-GalNAc- sequences found in terminal carbohydrate groups of glycoproteins and glycolipids. The highest activity is toward Gal-beta-1,3-GlcNAc and the lowest toward Gal-beta-1,3- GalNAc. Defects in ST3GAL3 are the cause of mental retardation autosomal recessive type 12 (MRT12). Mental retardation is characterized by significantly below average general intellectual functioning associated with impairments in adaptative behavior and manifested during the developmental period. Belongs to the glycosyltransferase 29 family. 26 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes
The ST3GAL3 st3gal3 (Catalog #AAA9125807) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The ST3GAL3 Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's ST3GAL3 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunofluorescence (IF). WB: 1:500 - 1:2000 IHC: 1:50 - 1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ST3GAL3 st3gal3 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ST3GAL3, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
