Related Product Information for CAT active protein
Catalase (CAT) is an antioxidant enzyme present in all aerobic organisms. It isknown to catalyze H2O2 into water and oxygen in an energy-efficient manner in thecells exposed to environmental stress. H2O2 will have specific absorbance at 240nm. when will add CAT the absorbance wil decrease, thus the activiy of CAT can be measured by caculating H2O2 absorbance decrease. The reaction was performed in adding 10ul (dilute with 50mM Potassium Phosphate Buffer, pH7.0)recombinant human CAT to 290ul substrate mixture solution(50mM Potassium Phosphate Buffer, pH7.0, 0.036% H2O2 ,allow the substrate to equilibrate to 25 degree C), quickly mixed, then record the time required for the A240 to decrease from 0.45 to 0.40 absorbance units. One unit of catalase will decompose 1.0umole of H2O2 per minute at pH7.0 at 25 degree C. The activity of recombiant human CAT is 2000U/mg.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes catalase, a key antioxidant enzyme in the bodies defense against oxidative stress. Catalase is a heme enzyme that is present in the peroxisome of nearly all aerobic cells. Catalase converts the reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen and thereby mitigates the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Oxidative stress is hypothesized to play a role in the development of many chronic or late-onset diseases such as diabetes, asthma, Alzheimer's disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancers. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with decreases in catalase activity but, to date, acatalasemia is the only disease known to be caused by this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2009]

Uniprot Description

Catalase: Occurs in almost all aerobically respiring organisms and serves to protect cells from the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Promotes growth of cells including T-cells, B-cells, myeloid leukemia cells, melanoma cells, mastocytoma cells and normal and transformed fibroblast cells. Homotetramer. Belongs to the catalase family.

Product Notes

The CAT cat (Catalog #AAA2125337) is an Active Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's Catalase (CAT) can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Cell culture, Activity Assays. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CAT cat for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Asp10~Asn5 07. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Catalase (CAT), Active Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
