Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane and also the plasma membrane. the channel at the outer mitochondrial membrane allowsdiffusion of small hydrophilic molecules; in the plasma membrane it is involved in cell volume regulation and apoptosis. It adopts an openconformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformationat potentials above 30-40 mV. the open state has a weak anionselectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a voltage-dependent anion channel protein that is a major component of the outer mitochondrial membrane. The encoded protein facilitates the exchange of metabolites and ions across the outer mitochondrial membrane and may regulate mitochondrial functions. This protein also forms channels in the plasma membrane and may be involved in transmembrane electron transport. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Multiple pseudogenes of this gene are found on chromosomes 1, 2 3, 6, 9, 12, X and Y.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2010]

Uniprot Description

Forms a channel through the mitochondrial outer membrane and also the plasma membrane. The channel at the outer mitochondrial membrane allows diffusion of small hydrophilic molecules; in the plasma membrane it is involved in cell volume regulation and apoptosis. It adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV. The open state has a weak anion selectivity whereas the closed state is cation-selective (PubMed:11845315, PubMed:18755977, PubMed:20230784, PubMed:8420959). May participate in the formation of the permeability transition pore complex (PTPC) responsible for the release of mitochondrial products that triggers apoptosis (PubMed:15033708, PubMed:25296756).

Product Notes

The VDAC1/PORIN vdac1 (Catalog #AAA2400815) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-VDAC1/PORIN Antibody (C-Terminus) reacts with Human Predicted: Rabbit, Mouse, Bovine, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's VDAC1/PORIN can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Paraffin, Western Blot (WB). IHC-P: 2.5 ug/ml WB: 0.5-4 ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the VDAC1/PORIN vdac1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "VDAC1/PORIN, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
