NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
Xanthine dehydrogenase belongs to the group of molybdenum-containing hydroxylases involved in the oxidative metabolism of purines. The encoded protein has been identified as a moonlighting protein based on its ability to perform mechanistically distinct functions. Xanthine dehydrogenase can be converted to xanthine oxidase by reversible sulfhydryl oxidation or by irreversible proteolytic modification. Defects in xanthine dehydrogenase cause xanthinuria, may contribute to adult respiratory stress syndrome, and may potentiate influenza infection through an oxygen metabolite-dependent mechanism. Uniprot Description
Function: Key enzyme in purine degradation. Catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine. Catalyzes the oxidation of xanthine to uric acid. Contributes to the generation of reactive oxygen species. Has also low oxidase activity towards aldehydes (in vitro).1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.9
Catalytic activity: Hypoxanthine + NAD+ + H2O = xanthine + NADH.2 PublicationsManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.4
Cofactor: Binds 2 2Fe-2S clusters.1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.9
Enzyme regulation: Can be converted from the dehydrogenase form (D) to the oxidase form (O) irreversibly by proteolysis or reversibly through the oxidation of sulfhydryl groups 1 PublicationManual assertion based on experiment in:Ref.10

Product Notes
The Human XDH xdh (Catalog #AAA701269) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA701269 ELISA Kit recognizes Human XDH. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "xanthine dehydrogenase, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
