Related Product Information for STARD5 recombinant protein
Description: STARD5 Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated polypeptide chain topological domain containing 236 amino acids (1-213 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 26.2kDa. STARD5 is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: STARD5 is a member of the STARD family of proteins. This family of proteins has 15 different members, all of which hold the distinctive START domain and have a vital part in the metabolism and transport of lipids. The STARD family of proteins has six subfamilies based on their START domain sequences. STARD5 constitute one subfamily, sharing approximately 30% amino acid identity with each other. Even though STARD5 is not sterol-regulated it is induced by endomplasmic reticulum (ER) stress.

NCBI Description

Cholesterol homeostasis is regulated, at least in part, by sterol regulatory element (SRE)-binding proteins (e.g., SREBP1; MIM 184756) and by liver X receptors (e.g., LXRA; MIM 602423). Upon sterol depletion, LXRs are inactive and SREBPs are cleaved, after which they bind promoter SREs and activate genes involved in cholesterol biosynthesis and uptake. Sterol transport is mediated by vesicles or by soluble protein carriers, such as steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (STAR; MIM 600617). STAR is homologous to a family of proteins containing a 200- to 210-amino acid STAR-related lipid transfer (START) domain, including STARD5 (Soccio et al., 2002 [PubMed 12011452]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]

Uniprot Description

STARD5: May be involved in the intracellular transport of sterols or other lipids. May bind cholesterol or other sterols. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 15q26

Cellular Component: cytosol

Molecular Function: bile acid binding

Biological Process: steroid metabolic process; C21-steroid hormone biosynthetic process; lipid transport

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "StAR-Related Lipid Transfer Domain Containing 5, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
