Zinc Finger Protein 287 (ZNF287, also known as ZSCAN45 and ZKSCAN1) encodes a member of the krueppel family of zinc finger proteins, suggesting a role as a transcription factor. Its specific function has not been determined. ZSCAN45 is located near the Smith-Magenis syndrome region on chromosome 17. ZSCAN45 is ubiquitously expressed in brain, thyroid and other tissues. ZSCAN45 is related to nucleic acid binding and DNA-binding transcription factor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific.
