Rabbit anti Wee1 antibody recognizes Wee 1 (Wee1-like protein kinase) also known as Wee1A kinase. The Wee1 tyrosine kinase is an important regulator of the G2 to M transition of the cell cycle via phosphorylating the cdc2/cyclinB kinase. Cdc2 phosphorylated on tyrosine residue 15 by Wee1 kinase and on threonine residue 14 by Myt1 kinase is inactive. Cdc2 becomes active upon dephosphorylation by the cdc25 phosphatase.Wee1 activity is regulated via phosphorylation on Serine 53 and Serine 123 residues. These modifications trigger Wee1 ubiquitination by the SCFbeta-TrCP1/2 E3 ligase complex and subsequent degradation by the 26S proteasome.
