Related Product Information for anti-PENK antibody
The Proenkephalin precursor proteins are secreted proteins belonging to the opioid neuropeptide precursor family. The proenkephalin proteins are proteolytically processed to form active secreted opioid peptides which function as ligands for the kappa-type of opiod receptor. Proenkephalin A precursor contains Synenkephalin, Leu-enkephalin and Met-enkephalin processed active peptides while the Proenkephalin B precursor contains beta-neoendorphin, Dynorphin, Leumorphin, Leu-enkephalin and Rimorphin processed active peptides. beta-endorphin and Met-enkephalin are endogenous opiates while ACTH is crucial for adrenal gland stimulation to release cortisol. MSH increases Melanin production in melanocytes which leads to an increase in skin pigmentation. Leumorphin may be important in apoptosis prevention by being involved in the MAP-K and PI 3-K pathways.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a preproprotein that is proteolytically processed to generate multiple protein products. These products include the pentapeptide opioids Met-enkephalin and Leu-enkephalin, which are stored in synaptic vesicles, then released into the synapse where they bind to mu- and delta-opioid receptors to modulate the perception of pain. Other non-opioid cleavage products may function in distinct biological activities. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2015]

Uniprot Description

PENK: Met- and Leu-enkephalins compete with and mimic the effects of opiate drugs. They play a role in a number of physiologic functions, including pain perception and responses to stress. PENK(114-133) and PENK(237-258) increase glutamate release in the striatum. PENK(114-133) decreases GABA concentration in the striatum. Belongs to the opioid neuropeptide precursor family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide; Hormone

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8q23-q24

Cellular Component: extracellular region

Molecular Function: neuropeptide hormone activity; protein binding; opioid peptide activity

Biological Process: startle response; behavioral fear response; neuropeptide signaling pathway; locomotory behavior; sensory perception of pain; signal transduction

Product Notes

The PENK penk (Catalog #AAA3011492) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The PENK Polyclonal Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PENK can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PENK penk for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PENK, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
