Target Description: NR5A1 is a members of the orphan nuclear receptor superfamily that is critical regulatory components of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal-gonadal axis. In adrenal and gonadal tissues they regulate the expression of the cytochrome P450 steroid hydroxylase genes, key mediators of steroidogenesis.

The protein encoded by this gene is a transcriptional activator involved in sex determination. The encoded protein binds DNA as a monomer.
