NCBI Description

catalyzes the hydrolysis of pyridoxine-5'-beta-D-glucoside to release pyridoxine; also catalyses the hydrolysis of lactose to D-glucose and D-galactose [RGD, Feb 2006]

Uniprot Description

LCT: LPH splits lactose in the small intestine. Defects in LCT are the cause of congenital lactase deficiency (COLACD); also known as hereditary alactasia or disaccharide intolerance II. Congenital lactase deficiency is a an autosomal recessive, rare and severe gastrointestinal disorder. It is characterized by watery diarrhea in infants fed with breast milk or other lactose-containing formulas. An almost total lack of LCT activity is found in jejunal biopsy material of patients with congenital lactase deficiency. Opposite to congenital lactase deficiency, adult-type hypolactasia, also known as lactose intolerance, is the most common enzyme deficiency worldwide. It is caused by developmental down-regulation of lactase activity during childhood or early adulthood. The decline of lactase activity is a normal physiological phenomenon; however, the majority of Northern Europeans have the ability to maintain lactase activity and digest lactose throughout life (lactase persistence). The down-regulation of lactase activity operates at the transcriptional level and it is associated with a noncoding variation in the MCM6 gene, located in the upstream vicinity of LCT. Belongs to the glycosyl hydrolase 1 family.

Product Notes

The LCT lct (Catalog #AAA541966) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The LCT Antibody BIOTIN-Conjugated reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's LCT can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Confocal Microscopy (CM), ELISA (EIA), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). Confocal Microscopy||1:50 Dot Blot: 1:10,000 ELISA: 1:10,000 Immunocytochemistry: 1:50 Immunofluorescence: 1:50 Immunohistochemistry: 1:50 Immunoprecipitation: 1:200 Western Blot: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the LCT lct for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "LCT, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
