Related Product Information for anti-TFAP2A antibody
Description: Rabbit IgG polyclonal antibody for Transcription factor AP-2-alpha(TFAP2A) detection. Tested with WB in Human, Rat.
Background: TFAP2A, also known as AP-2alpha or BOFS, is a protein that in humans is encoded by the TFAP2A gene. It is mapped to 6p24.3. The protein encoded by this gene is a transcription factor that binds the consensus sequence 5'-GCCNNNGGC-3'. The encoded protein functions as either a homodimer or as a heterodimer with similar family members. This protein activates the transcription of some genes while inhibiting the transcription of others. TFAP2A acts as a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor recognizing and binding to the specific DNA sequence and recruiting transcription machinery. This gene is expressed in neural crest cell lineages with the highest levels of expression corresponding to early neural crest cells, suggesting that TFAP2A plays a role in their differentiation and development.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a transcription factor that binds the consensus sequence 5'-GCCNNNGGC-3'. The encoded protein functions as either a homodimer or as a heterodimer with similar family members. This protein activates the transcription of some genes while inhibiting the transcription of others. Defects in this gene are a cause of branchiooculofacial syndrome (BOFS). Three transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]

Uniprot Description

AP-2 alpha: Sequence-specific DNA-binding protein that interacts with inducible viral and cellular enhancer elements to regulate transcription of selected genes. AP-2 factors bind to the consensus sequence 5'-GCCNNNGGC-3' and activate genes involved in a large spectrum of important biological functions including proper eye, face, body wall, limb and neural tube development. They also suppress a number of genes including MCAM/MUC18, C/EBP alpha and MYC. AP-2-alpha is the only AP-2 protein required for early morphogenesis of the lens vesicle. Together with the CITED2 coactivator, stimulates the PITX2 P1 promoter transcription activation. Associates with chromatin to the PITX2 P1 promoter region. Binds DNA as a dimer. Can form homodimers or heterodimers with other AP-2 family members. Interacts with WWOX. Interacts with CITED4. Interacts with UBE2I. Interacts with RALBP1 in a complex also containing EPN1 and NUMB during interphase and mitosis. Interacts with KCTD1; this interaction represses transcription activation. Interacts (via C-terminus) with CITED2 (via C-terminus); the interaction stimulates TFAP2A- transcriptional activation. Interacts (via N-terminus) with EP300 (via N-terminus); the interaction requires CITED2. Belongs to the AP-2 family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The TFAP2A tfap2a (Catalog #AAA176871) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-AP2 alpha Antibody reacts with Human, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's AP2 alpha can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TFAP2A tfap2a for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "AP2 alpha, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
