Related Product Information for NFASC recombinant protein
Background: NFASC, also known as neurofascin, belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family. It contains 5 fibronectin type -III domains and 6 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. NFASC functions in neurite outgrowth, neurite fasciculation, and organization of the axon initial segment (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier on axons during early development. Both the AIS and nodes of Ranvier contain high densities of voltage-gated Na+ (Nav) channels which are clustered by interactions with cytoskeletal and scaffolding proteins including this protein, gliomedin, ankyrin 3 (ankyrin-G), and betaIV spectrin. NFASC links the AIS extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton.

Description: A DNA sequence encoding the human NFASC (NP_001005388.2) (Met1-Gln939) was expressed with the Fc region of human IgG1 at the C-terminus.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes an L1 family immunoglobulin cell adhesion molecule with multiple IGcam and fibronectin domains. The protein functions in neurite outgrowth, neurite fasciculation, and organization of the axon initial segment (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier on axons during early development. This protein links the AIS extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton. This gene undergoes extensive alternative splicing, and the full-length nature of some variants has not been determined.[provided by RefSeq, May 2009]

Uniprot Description

neurofascin: Cell adhesion, ankyrin-binding protein which may be involved in neurite extension, axonal guidance, synaptogenesis, myelination and neuron-glial cell interactions. Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family. 13 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q32.1

Cellular Component: focal adhesion; intracellular; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: myelination; peripheral nervous system development

Product Notes

The NFASC nfasc (Catalog #AAA2545160) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The recombinant human NFASC consists 1156 amino acids and predicts a molecular mass of 130 kDa. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the NFASC nfasc for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "NFASC / Neurofascin, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
