Related Product Information for NFASC recombinant protein
Background: NFASC (Neurofascin, also known as NRCAML, NEDCPMD, and NF) is a Protein Coding gene. 13 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported. NFASC belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily, L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family. It contains 5 fibronectin type-III domains and 6 Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains. The protein functions in neurite outgrowth, neurite fasciculation, and organization of the axon initial segment (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier on axons during early development. NFASC links the AIS extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton. It is broadly expressed in the brain, kidney, and other tissues. Diseases associated with NFASC include Neurodevelopmental Disorder With Central And Peripheral Motor Dysfunction and Demyelinating Polyneuropathy.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes an L1 family immunoglobulin cell adhesion molecule with multiple IGcam and fibronectin domains. The protein functions in neurite outgrowth, neurite fasciculation, and organization of the axon initial segment (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier on axons during early development. Both the AIS and nodes of Ranvier contain high densities of voltage-gated Na+ (Nav) channels which are clustered by interactions with cytoskeletal and scaffolding proteins including this protein, gliomedin, ankyrin 3 (ankyrin-G), and betaIV spectrin. This protein links the AIS extracellular matrix to the intracellular cytoskeleton. This gene undergoes extensive alternative splicing, and the full-length nature of some variants has not been determined.[provided by RefSeq, May 2009]

Uniprot Description

neurofascin: Cell adhesion, ankyrin-binding protein which may be involved in neurite extension, axonal guidance, synaptogenesis, myelination and neuron-glial cell interactions. Belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily. L1/neurofascin/NgCAM family. 13 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q32.1

Cellular Component: focal adhesion; paranode region of axon; integral to membrane; plasma membrane; intracellular

Molecular Function: protein binding

Biological Process: myelination; heterotypic cell-cell adhesion; axon guidance; clustering of voltage-gated sodium channels; synapse organization and biogenesis; transmission of nerve impulse; peripheral nervous system development; paranodal junction assembly

Product Notes

The NFASC nfasc (Catalog #AAA8121948) is a Recombinant Protein produced from HEK293 Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The amino acid sequence is listed below: Met1-Gln93 9. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Neurofascin, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
