Specificity
Recognizes human placental lactogen (epitiope 2). Radioimmunological direct binding studies were performed with 125I-labeled hPL, hGH, hPRL and increasing amounts of INN-hPL-37. In addition, competitive RIA with unlabeled hGH, hPRL and hPL were used for characterization. In competitive RIA cross reactivity with hGH and hPRL was below 1%. Direct binding demonstrated 39% reactivity with hGH but no cross reactivity with hPRL.

Human placental lactogen (hPL)
Hybridoma
X63-Ag8.653 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice.
Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
Related Product Information for anti-LTF antibody
Human placental lactogen (hPL) is known to originate in the syncytiotrophoblasts. Ultrastructural localization indicates that placental lactogen is stored in small morphologically distinct cytoplasmic granules within these cells and has a different secretory mechanism from other hormonal peptides such as human chorionic gonadotropin. The level of expression of placental lactogen through pregnancy increases gradually to term.

NCBI Description

This gene is a member of the transferrin family of genes and its protein product is found in the secondary granules of neutrophils. The protein is a major iron-binding protein in milk and body secretions with an antimicrobial activity, making it an important component of the non-specific immune system. The protein demonstrates a broad spectrum of properties, including regulation of iron homeostasis, host defense against a broad range of microbial infections, anti-inflammatory activity, regulation of cellular growth and differentiation and protection against cancer development and metastasis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]

Uniprot Description

LTF: Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. Belongs to the transferrin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative promoter.

Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Protease; Secreted; EC 3.4.21.-

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3p21.31

Cellular Component: extracellular space; specific granule; cytoplasm; extracellular region; nucleus; secretory granule

Molecular Function: heparin binding; protein serine/threonine kinase activator activity; protein binding; DNA binding; ferric iron binding; serine-type endopeptidase activity; iron ion binding

Biological Process: negative regulation of lipopolysaccharide-mediated signaling pathway; interaction with host; ossification; positive regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathway; antifungal humoral response; proteolysis; iron ion transport; humoral immune response; regulation of cytokine production; activation of NF-kappaB transcription factor; retinal homeostasis; positive regulation of osteoblast differentiation; negative regulation of viral genome replication; innate immune response in mucosa; response to host immune response; positive regulation of osteoblast proliferation; antibacterial humoral response; regulation of tumor necrosis factor production; negative regulation of viral reproduction; iron assimilation by chelation and transport; negative regulation of ATPase activity; negative regulation of apoptosis

Product Notes

The LTF gig12 (Catalog #AAA609204) is an Antibody produced from Mouse and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Lactogen, Placental (hPL, Choriomammotropin, Chorionic Somatomammotropin A, CSA, Chorionic Somatomammotropin Hormone 1, CSH1, CS1, CSH2, CSMT, hCSA, Somatotropin Precursor) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Lactogen, Placental can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Radioimmunoassay (RIA). Suitable for use in RIA. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the LTF gig12 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Lactogen, Placental, Monoclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
