Related Product Information for LTF elisa kit
LTF, a globular multifunctional protein with antimicrobial activity (bacteriocide, fungicide), is part of the innate defense, mainly at mucoses. Lactoferrin is found in milk and many mucosal secretions such as tears and saliva. Lactoferrin is also present in secondary granules of PMN and also is secreted by some acinar cells. Human colostrum has the highest concentration, followed by human milk, then cow milk.
Lactoferrin belongs to the transferrin family proteins (TF, melanotransferrin, ovotransferin, etc.). Its molecular mass is 80,000 u (80 kDa).Lactoferrin antimicrobial activity is due partly to its high affinity for Fe (ferric state). LF proteolysis produces lactoferricin, kaliocin-4 small peptides with antimicrobial activity.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate LTF in samples. An antibody specific for LTF has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyLTF present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for LTF is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of LTF bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

Uniprot Description

Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe3+ ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate.Lactotransferrin is a major iron-binding and multifunctional protein found in exocrine fluids such as breast milk and mucosal secretions. Has antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial properties may include bacteriostasis, which is related to its ability to sequester free iron and thus inhibit microbial growth, as well as direct bactericidal properties leading to the release of lipopolysaccharides from the bacterial outer membrane. The most effective inhibitory activity is seen against E.coli and P.aeruginosa. Has anabolic, differentiating and anti-apoptotic effects on osteoblasts and can also inhibit osteoclastogenesis, possibly playing a role in the regulation of bone growth. Interferes with the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated TLR4 signaling, but cannot directly stimulate the TLR4 signaling pathway and subsequent NF-kappa-B activation ().

Product Notes

The Goat LTF ltf (Catalog #AAA285399) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA285399 ELISA Kit recognizes Goat LTF. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Lactotransferrin, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
