Intended Uses: This sandwich kit is for the accurate quantitative detection of Human Arachidonate 12-lipoxygenase, 12S-type (also known as ALOX12) in serum, plasma, cell culture supernates, Ascites, tissue homogenates or other biological fluids.
Principle of the Assay: This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human ALOX12 antibody. ALOX12 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human ALOX12 Antibody is added and binds to ALOX12 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated ALOX12 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human ALOX12. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

This gene encodes a member of the lipoxygenase family of proteins. The encoded enzyme acts on different polyunsaturated fatty acid substrates to generate bioactive lipid mediators including eicosanoids and lipoxins. The encoded enzyme and its reaction products have been shown to regulate platelet function. Elevated expression of this gene has been observed in pancreatic islets derived from human diabetes patients. Allelic variants in this gene may be associated with susceptibility to toxoplasmosis.
