Related Product Information for BLVRA recombinant protein
Description: BLVRA Human Recombinant produced in E Coli is a single, non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 295 amino acids (3-296 a.a. and Methionine at N-terminus) and having a molecular mass of 33.3kDa (molecular weight on SDS-PAGE will shift up).The BLVRA is purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques.

Introduction: Biliverdin reductase A (BLVRA) is a member of the gfo/idh/mocA family. BLVRA is an enzyme that converts biliverdin to bilirubin, converting a double-bond between the second and third pyrrole ring into a single-bond. BLVRA reduces the gamma-methene bridge of the open tetrapyrrole, biliverdin IX alpha, to bilirubin with the simultaneous oxidation of a NADH or NADPH cofactor (Bilirubin + NAD(P)+ = biliverdin + NAD(P)H).BLVRA is a regulator for induction of activating transcription factor-2 and heme oxygenase-1. Furthermore, BLVRA enhances the role of HO-1 in cytoprotection and provides cytoprotection independent of heme degradation. In addition, Bilirubin while acting as a cytoprotective antioxidant is itself oxidized to biliverdin and subsequently recycled by biliverdin reductase back to bilirubin.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the biliverdin reductase family, members of which catalyze the conversion of biliverdin to bilirubin in the presence of NADPH or NADH. Mutations in this gene are associated with hyperbiliverdinemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2011]

Uniprot Description

BVR: Reduces the gamma-methene bridge of the open tetrapyrrole, biliverdin IX alpha, to bilirubin with the concomitant oxidation of a NADH or NADPH cofactor. Monomer. Liver. Belongs to the Gfo/Idh/MocA family. Biliverdin reductase subfamily.

Protein type: Kinase, protein; Cofactor and Vitamin Metabolism - porphyrin and chlorophyll; Oxidoreductase; Protein kinase, Ser/Thr (non-receptor); EC 1.3.1.24; ATYPICAL group; BLVRA family

It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Biliverdin Reductase A, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
