Product Information: Cathepsin G (CTSG) Inhibitor Screening Kit: Rapid & Convenient Assay to Screen/Study/Characterize Cathepsin G Inhibitors. Includes Inhibitor Control. High-Throughput adaptable. 100 Assays.

Background: Cathepsin G (CTSG, EC 3.4.21.20) is a Serine protease found in azurophil granules of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The encoded protease has specificity similar to that of chymotrypsin C, and may participate in the killing and digestion of engulfed pathogens, and in connective tissue remodeling at sites of inflammation. MyBioSource's Cathepsin G Inhibitor Screening Kit utilizes the ability of active Cathepsin G to cleave a synthetic pNA (4-Nitroaniline)-based peptide substrate to release pNA, which can be easily quantified using a colorimetric microplate reader. In the presence of a Cathepsin G inhibitor, the cleavage of this substrate is reduced/abolished resulting in decrease or total loss of the pNA absorbance. This simple and high-throughput adaptable assay kit can be used to screen/study/characterize potential inhibitors of Cathepsin G.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the peptidase S1 protein family, is found in azurophil granules of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The encoded protease has a specificity similar to that of chymotrypsin C, and may participate in the killing and digestion of engulfed pathogens, and in connective tissue remodeling at sites of inflammation. In addition, the encoded protein is antimicrobial, with bacteriocidal activity against S. aureus and N. gonorrhoeae. Transcript variants utilizing alternative polyadenylation signals exist for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]

Uniprot Description

CTSG: Serine protease with trypsin- and chymotrypsin-like specificity. Cleaves complement C3. Has antibacterial activity against the Gram-negative bacterium P.aeruginosa, antibacterial activity is inhibited by LPS from P.aeruginosa, Z-Gly-Leu-Phe- CH2Cl and phenylmethylsulfonyl fluoride. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family.

Product Notes

The CTSG ctsg (Catalog #AAA841842) is an Assay Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. Screen/study/characterize potential inhibitors of Cathepsin G. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CTSG ctsg for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cathepsin G, Assay Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
