Uniprot Description
ALCAM: Cell adhesion molecule that binds to CD6. Involved in neurite extension by neurons via heterophilic and homophilic interactions. May play a role in the binding of T- and B-cells to activated leukocytes, as well as in interactions between cells of the nervous system. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Cell adhesion; Membrane protein, integral
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 16|16 B5
Cellular Component: axon; cell soma; external side of plasma membrane; focal adhesion; immunological synapse; intrinsic to plasma membrane; T cell receptor complex
Molecular Function: protein binding
Biological Process: axon guidance; heterophilic cell adhesion; motor axon guidance

Product Notes
The ALCAM / CD166 alcam (Catalog #AAA2547221) is a Recombinant Protein produced from Human Cells and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The recombinant mouse ALCAM/Fc is a disulfide-linked homodimer after removal of the signal peptide. The reduced monomer consists of 748 amino acids and has a predicted molecular mass of 84.2 kDa. Due to glycosylation, in SDS-PAGE under reducing conditions, rmALCAM/Fc migrates with approximately molecular mass of 105-110 kDa & 210 kDa corresponding to the monomer and homodimer. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the ALCAM / CD166 alcam for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "ALCAM / CD166, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
