Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile glycerol (40-50%), aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Membrin, also known as GS27 (Golgi SNARE of 27 kD), is a 27 kD integral membrane protein on the surface of the Golgi apparatus that serves as a t-SNARE in ER to Golgi transport (2). Membrin is a member of a protein complex that consists of cis-Golgi vesicle receptor syntaxin 5 and GS28, v-SNARE rbet1 and rsec22, and rsly1. Immunoprecipitation analysis has demonstrated that there are two subcomplexes within this complex: one contains syntaxin 5 and GOS28 and the other contains syntaxin 5, membrin, rsec22 and rbet1 (3,4). These complexes have been postulated to direct the fusion of ER-derived vesicles with Vesicular tubular cluster (VTC), and the fusion of VTCs to form cis-Golgi compartment (3,4).
