Related Product Information for PDGFA recombinant protein
Recombinant Human PDGFA was expressed in E Coli cells. The protein accession number is P04085
The PDGF family is comprised of five different disulphide-linked dimers of four different polypeptide chains: A, B, C and D (PDGF-AA, PDGF-BB, PDGF-AB, PDGF-CC and PDGF-DD). Synthesized mainly by megakaryocytes, PDGFs are stored in the alpha granules of platelets from which they are released following platelet activation. PDGF receptors are expressed in fibroblasts, osteoblasts, chondroblasts, smooth muscle cells, glial cells and endothelial cells. Functioning as an autocrine and paracrine growth factor, PDGFs are involved in a number of biological processes that include but not limited to hyperplasia, chemotaxis, embryonic neuron development, wound healing and respiratory tubule epithelial cell development. Aberrant expression of PDGFs is observed with vascular proliferative diseases such as atherosclerosis. PDGFs regulate the synthesis of their own receptor and also influence the expression of membrane receptors for IL1, EGF, 5-Hydroxytryptamine, LDL and transferrin. Recombinant Human PDGFA is a disulfide-linked homodimer of two A chains.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the platelet-derived growth factor family. The four members of this family are mitogenic factors for cells of mesenchymal origin and are characterized by a motif of eight cysteines. This gene product can exist either as a homodimer or as a heterodimer with the platelet-derived growth factor beta polypeptide, where the dimers are connected by disulfide bonds. Studies using knockout mice have shown cellular defects in oligodendrocytes, alveolar smooth muscle cells, and Leydig cells in the testis; knockout mice die either as embryos or shortly after birth. Two splice variants have been identified for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

PDGFA: Growth factor that plays an essential role in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, cell migration, survival and chemotaxis. Potent mitogen for cells of mesenchymal origin. Required for normal lung alveolar septum formation during embryogenesis, normal development of the gastrointestinal tract, normal development of Leydig cells and spermatogenesis. Required for normal oligodendrocyte development and normal myelination in the spinal cord and cerebellum. Plays an important role in wound healing. Signaling is modulated by the formation of heterodimers with PDGFB. Belongs to the PDGF/VEGF growth factor family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Product Notes

The PDGFA pdgfa (Catalog #AAA517479) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's PDGFA can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Cell Assay. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PDGFA pdgfa for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PDGFA, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
