Related Product Information for 5HT elisa kit
Serotonin also called 5-hydroxytryptamine, is primarily found in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract and central nervous system (CNS) of animals. Approximately 80 percent of the human body's total serotonin is located in the enterochromaffin cells in the gut, where it is used to regulate intestinal movements. The remainder is synthesized in serotonergic neurons in the CNS where it has various functions, including the regulation of mood, appetite, sleep, muscle contraction, and some cognitive functions including memory and learning; and in blood platelets where it helps to regulate hemostasis and blood clotting. In addition to animals, serotonin is also found in fungi and plants. 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) is an important neurotransmitter made by neurons in the central nervous system. These functions are mediated by a large number of receptors. After it is released by a neuron, 5-HT activates receptors located on nearby neurons.

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate 5HT in samples. An antibody specific for 5HT has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any5HT present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for 5HT is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of 5HT bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Description

This locus encodes a 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) receptor subunit. The encoded protein, subunit E, may play a role in neurotransmission in myenteric neurons. Genes encoding subunits C, D and E form a cluster on chromosome 3. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2012]

Uniprot Description

5-HT(3E): This is one of the several different receptors for 5- hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), a biogenic hormone that functions as a neurotransmitter, a hormone, and a mitogen. This receptor is a ligand-gated ion channel, which when activated causes fast, depolarizing responses. It is a cation-specific, but otherwise relatively nonselective, ion channel. Belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel (TC 1.A.9) family. 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor (TC 1.A.9.2) subfamily. HTR3E sub-subfamily. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Channel, cation; Channel, ligand-gated; Transporter, ion channel; Membrane protein, multi-pass; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 3q27.1

Cellular Component: nicotinic acetylcholine-gated receptor-channel complex; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: acetylcholine binding; acetylcholine receptor activity; nicotinic acetylcholine-activated cation-selective channel activity; protein binding; serotonin receptor activity; serotonin-activated cation-selective channel activity

Biological Process: serotonin receptor signaling pathway; synaptic transmission, cholinergic; transmembrane transport

Product Notes

The Canine 5HT htr3e (Catalog #AAA283892) is an ELISA Kit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The AAA283892 ELISA Kit recognizes Canine 5HT. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "5-Hydroxytryptamine, ELISA Kit" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
