Related Product Information for RETN western blot control
Resistin is a member of a class of cysteine rich proteins and is also known as serine/cysteine rich adipocytesepcific secretory factor or ADSF or FIZZ3. It is secreted by adipose tissue and has been implicated in the pathogenesis of obesity-mediated insulin resistance and type II diabetes. Resistin also appears to act as a proinflammatory cytokine. Recombinant Resistin comprises a 92 amino acid fragment (17-108) corresponding to the mature Resistin protein and is expressed in E Coli with an amino terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is not intended for therapeutic use.

NCBI Description

This gene belongs to the family defined by the mouse resistin-like genes. The characteristic feature of this family is the C-terminal stretch of 10 cys residues with identical spacing. The mouse homolog of this protein is secreted by adipocytes, and may be the hormone potentially linking obesity to type II diabetes. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]

Uniprot Description

resistin: Hormone that seems to suppress insulin ability to stimulate glucose uptake into adipose cells. Potentially links obesity to diabetes. Belongs to the resistin/FIZZ family.

Protein type: Secreted, signal peptide; Secreted

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 19p13.2

Cellular Component: extracellular space

Molecular Function: hormone activity

Disease: Diabetes Mellitus, Noninsulin-dependent

Product Notes

The RETN retn (Catalog #AAA343123) is a Western Blot Control and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Resistin, Western Blot Control" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
