Scientific Background: RGS1 is a member of the regulator of G-protein signalling family and attenuates the signalling activity of G-proteins. RGS1 binds to activated GTP-bound G alpha subunit and acts as a GTPase activating protein (GAP) thereby increasing the rate of conversion of GTP to GDP and terminating the signal (1). RGS1 is extensively up-regulated in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) tissues and melanoma. In melanoma, RGS1 expression is significantly correlated with increased tumor thickness, mitotic rate and presence of vascular involvement. Furthermore, there is significant association between increasing RGS1 expression and reduced relapse-free survival as well as disease-specific survival (DSS) survival (2).

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the regulator of G-protein signalling family. This protein is located on the cytosolic side of the plasma membrane and contains a conserved, 120 amino acid motif called the RGS domain. The protein attenuates the signalling activity of G-proteins by binding to activated, GTP-bound G alpha subunits and acting as a GTPase activating protein (GAP), increasing the rate of conversion of the GTP to GDP. This hydrolysis allows the G alpha subunits to bind G beta/gamma subunit heterodimers, forming inactive G-protein heterotrimers, thereby terminating the signal. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

Uniprot Description

Function: Inhibits signal transduction by increasing the GTPase activity of G protein alpha subunits thereby driving them into their inactive GDP-bound form. This protein may be involved in the regulation of B-cell activation and proliferation.

Tissue specificity: B-cell specific. Expression is relatively low in B-cells and chronic lymphocytic leukemia B-cells; however, in other types of malignant B-cell such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma and hairy cell leukemia, expression is constitutively high.

Induction: In response to several B-cell activation signals.

Post-translational modification: Could be phosphorylated. Might be functionally regulated by protein kinase(s).

Sequence similarities: Contains 1 RGS domain.

Product Notes

The RGS1 rgs1 (Catalog #AAA515377) is a Recombinant Protein produced from E Coli and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The tag for this protein is His tag!!Expression System||E.coli!!Source Note||Recombinant full-length human RGS1 Protein was expressed in E. coli cells. AAA Biotech's RGS1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the RGS1 rgs1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "RGS1, Recombinant Protein" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
