Function
Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules (PubMed:23001566, PubMed:28013290, PubMed:26732629). It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non- exchangeable site on the alpha chain (By similarity). Plays a critical role in proper axon guidance in both central and peripheral axon tracts (PubMed:23001566). Implicated in neuronal migration (PubMed:19465910).
Cellular Location
Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton
Tissue Location
High expression in brain.
Preparation and Storage
Maintain refrigerated at 2-8 degree C for up to 6 months. For long term storage store at -20 degree C in small aliquots to prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a beta isoform of tubulin, which binds GTP and is a major component of microtubules. This gene is highly similar to TUBB2A and TUBB2C. Defects in this gene are a cause of asymmetric polymicrogyria. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Uniprot Description

TUBB2B: Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. TUBB2B is implicated in neuronal migration. Defects in TUBB2B are a cause of polymicrogyria asymmetric (PMGA). PMGA is a malformation of the cortex in which the brain surface is irregular and characterized by an excessive number of small gyri with abnormal lamination. Belongs to the tubulin family.

Protein type: Cytoskeletal

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p25

Cellular Component: microtubule; cytoplasm; nucleus

Molecular Function: GTPase activity; protein binding; GTP binding; structural constituent of cytoskeleton

Biological Process: protein polymerization; 'de novo' posttranslational protein folding; cellular protein metabolic process; protein folding; neuron migration; transmembrane transport; microtubule-based process

Product Notes

The TUBB2B tubb2b (Catalog #AAA9202349) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The immunogen sequence is 12-39. The TUBB2B Antibody (N-term) reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat Predicted Reactivity: Chicken, Monkey, Bovine, Xenopus, Pig and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's TUBB2B can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA (EIA). WB~~1:4000 IHC-p~~1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the TUBB2B tubb2b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "TUBB2B, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
