TLCD1 (TLC Domain Containing 1) is a Protein Coding gene. The TLCD1 gene, located on 17q11.2, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, and zebrafish. An important paralog of this gene is TLCD2. TLCD1 is widely expressed in the ovary, lymph node, and other tissues. TLCD1 regulates the composition and fluidity of the plasma membrane, and Inhibits the incorporation of membrane-fluidizing phospholipids containing omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) and thereby promotes membrane rigidity. Inhibition of FLD-1 or TLCD1/2 prevents lipotoxicity by allowing increased levels of membrane phospholipids that contain fluidizing long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids. 231 organisms have orthologs with the human gene TLCD1.
