Background: STAT1 is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. STATs undergo tyrosine and serine phosphorylation in response to growth factor or cytokine signaling. This phosphorylation results in dimerization and translocation of STAT proteins to the nucleus. STAT1 is alternatively spliced to give rise to STAT1a and STAT1b, both of which mediate interferon a activity, but only STAT1a mediates interferon-g activity. STAT1 plays a critical role in various forms of cell death, both apoptotic and non-apoptotic. The mechanisms of action are both by transcriptional activation of target genes, and by direct association with apoptotic regulators, including TRADD, p53, and HDAC (HDAC1, HDAC2, HDAC3, HDAC4, HDAC5, HDAC6 and HDAC11). STAT1 target genes include the pro-inflammatory genes for iNOS, COX, VCAM, and ICAM, making STAT1 an attractive anti-inflammatory target.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT protein family. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by the receptor associated kinases, and then form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the cell nucleus where they act as transcription activators. This protein can be activated by various ligands including interferon-alpha, interferon-gamma, EGF, PDGF and IL6. This protein mediates the expression of a variety of genes, which is thought to be important for cell viability in response to different cell stimuli and pathogens. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
STAT1: transcription factor of the STAT family. Phosphorylated and activated by receptor-associated kinases downstream of certain receptor tyrosine kinases, GPCRs, and receptors for various interleukins and interferons. Forms homo- or heterodimers that translocate into the nucleus where they regulate transcription. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described.

The STAT1 phospho Ser727 antibody (pAb) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's STAT1 phospho Ser727 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Dot Blot (DB), Western Blot (WB). Applications Validated: WB: 1:500-1:1,000 dilution. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the STAT1 stat1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "STAT1 phospho Ser727, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
