Then cells were stained with the Alexa Fluor488-conjugated Goat Anti-rabbit IgG secondary antibody (green). Positive staining was localized to Nucleus.)

The Sine oculis homeobox homolog 4 (SIX4) gene belongs to the sine oculis/SIX gene family, which includes six members in vertebrates. SIX4 gene plays a crucial role in skeletal myogenesis, and its genetic variations or deficiency may cause hypopituitarism, suggesting that the SIX4 gene is a potential candidate gene affecting body measurement traits (BMTs) in animals. The gene is thought to be involved in neurogenesis, myogenesis, and development of other organs, based on its specific expression in certain neuronal cells of the developing embryo and adult skeletal muscles. The Six4/AREC3 gene was originally isolated as a regulatory factor bound to the positive regulatory region of the Na, K-ATPase alpha 1 subunit. It is a murine homolog of the Drosophila sine oculis (so) gene, which is essential for the development of the entire insect visual system.
