Component of RNA polymerase II, POLR2I catalyzes the transcription of DNA into RNA using the four ribonucleoside triphosphates as substrates. POLR2I is part of the upper jaw surrounding the central large cleft and is thought to grab the incoming DNA template.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a subunit of RNA polymerase II, the polymerase responsible for synthesizing messenger RNA in eukaryotes. This subunit, in combination with two other polymerase subunits, forms the DNA binding domain of the polymerase, a groove in which the DNA template is transcribed into RNA.
