NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the centaurin gamma-like family. It mediates anti-apoptotic effects of nerve growth factor by activating nuclear phosphoinositide 3-kinase. It is overexpressed in cancer cells, and promotes cancer cell invasion. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene. CENTG1: a member of the centaurin family of ADP-ribosylation factor directed GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs). A GAP for ARF1 and ARF5. Two alternatively-spliced isoforms have been described. Isoform 1 is brain-specific, and isoform 2 is ubiquitously expressed, with highest levels in brain and heart. Isoform 1 participates to the prevention of neuronal apoptosis by enhancing PI3 kinase activity.
