NCBI Description

Photon absorption triggers a signaling cascade in rod photoreceptors that activates cGMP phosphodiesterase (PDE), resulting in the rapid hydrolysis of cGMP, closure of cGMP-gated cation channels, and hyperpolarization of the cell. PDE is a peripheral membrane heterotrimeric enzyme made up of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits. This gene encodes the beta subunit. Mutations in this gene result in retinitis pigmentosa and autosomal dominant congenital stationary night blindness. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009]

Uniprot Description

PDE6B: This protein participates in processes of transmission and amplification of the visual signal. Necessary for the formation of a functional phosphodiesterase holoenzyme. Defects in PDE6B are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 40 (RP40). RP40 is a retinal dystrophy belonging to the group of pigmentary retinopathies. Retinitis pigmentosa is characterized by retinal pigment deposits visible on fundus examination and primary loss of rod photoreceptor cells followed by secondary loss of cone photoreceptors. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well. Defects in PDE6B are a cause of congenital stationary night blindness autosomal dominant type 2 (CSNBAD2); also known as congenital stationary night blindness Rambusch type. Congenital stationary night blindness is a non-progressive retinal disorder characterized by impaired night vision. Belongs to the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: EC 3.1.4.35; Phosphodiesterase

Product Notes

The PDE6 pde6b (Catalog #AAA540081) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Pan PDE6 Beta Antibody Affinity Purified reacts with Bovine, Human, Mouse, Pig, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's PDE6 Beta can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EIA), Confocal Microscopy (CM), Immunocytochemistry (ICC), Immunofluorescence (IF), Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Western Blot (WB). Confocal Microscopy||1:200 Dot Blot: 1:10,000 ELISA: 1:10,000 Immunocytochemistry: 1:200 Immunofluorescence: 1:200 Immunohistochemistry: 1:200 Western Blot: 1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the PDE6 pde6b for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "PDE6 Beta, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
