Origin recognition complex (ORC) proteins were first discovered as a six-subunit assemblage in budding yeast that promotes the initiation of DNA replication. ORC binds to DNA to mark the site for the initiation of replication in eukaryotes. ORC1-5 appear to be present in all eukaryotes, and include both AAA+ and winged-helix motifs. The protein encoded by ORC3 (also known as LAT, ORC3L and LATHEO) gene is a subunit of the ORC complex. Studies of a similar gene in Drosophila suggested a possible role of this protein in neuronal proliferation and olfactory memory. ORC3 binds histone H3 and H4 trimethylation marks H3K9me3, H3K27me3 and H4K20me3.
