MRPL42 (Mitochondrial Ribosomal Protein L42) is a Protein Coding gene. The MRPL42 gene, located on 12q22, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. MRPL42 belongs to the mitochondrion-specific ribosomal protein mL42 family. This gene encodes a protein identified as belonging to both the 28S and the 39S subunits. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. MRPL42 is widely expressed in the adrenal, thyroid, and other tissues. Diseases associated with MRPL42 include Somatization Disorder. MRPL42 is a novel oncogene in glioma and might help us develop promising targetted therapies for glioma patients.
