Related Product Information for anti-GRM5 antibody
Metabotropic glutamate receptor 5 (mGluR5/GRM5) is a Galphaq/11-coupled receptor, mainly found at the postsynaptic site. mGluR5 stimulation leads to the activation of phospholipase Cbeta1 (PLCbeta), promoting diacylglicerol (DAG) and inositol 1, 4, 5-trisphosphate (IP3) formation, which leads to the release of Ca2+ from the intracellular stores and the activation of protein kinases, including protein kinase C. Additionally, stimulation of mGluR5 also triggers the activation of other cell signaling pathways that are important for cell proliferation and survival, such as the activation of the extracellular signal regulated protein kinase (ERK) and AKT. mGluR5 has also been implicated in the pathology of other neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease, as well as in physiological processes, including memory and motor coordination.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the G-protein coupled receptor 3 protein family. The encoded protein is a metabatropic glutamate receptor, whose signaling activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. This protein may be involved in the regulation of neural network activity and synaptic plasticity. Glutamatergic neurotransmission is involved in most aspects of normal brain function and can be perturbed in many neuropathologic conditions. A pseudogene of this gene has been defined on chromosome 11. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2014]

Uniprot Description

G-protein coupled receptor for glutamate. Ligand binding causes a conformation change that triggers signaling via guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) and modulates the activity of down-stream effectors. Signaling activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system and generates a calcium-activated chloride current. Plays an important role in the regulation of synaptic plasticity and the modulation of the neural network activity.

Product Notes

The GRM5 grm5 (Catalog #AAA8101762) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-mGluR5/GRM5 Antibody, Rabbit Polyclonal reacts with Human Predicted to React with: Mouse, Rat (Species predicted to react based on 100% sequence homology) and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's mGluR5/GRM5 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistochemistry-Paraffin (IHC-P). IHC-P: 1:500-1:2000. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GRM5 grm5 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "mGluR5/GRM5, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
