NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) family. Members of this family play a role in cytoskeletal regulation, protein kinase C signaling and calmodulin signaling. The encoded protein affects the formation of adherens junction. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. Pseudogenes of this gene are located on the long arm of chromosomes 6 and 10. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2012]

Uniprot Description

Function: Controls cell movement by regulating actin cytoskeleton homeostasis and filopodium and lamellipodium formation. When unphosphorylated, induces cell migration. When phosphorylated by MAPK8, induces actin bundles formation and stabilization, thereby reducing actin plasticity, hence restricting cell movement, including neuronal migration. May also affect cancer cell migration. May be involved in coupling the protein kinase C and calmodulin signal transduction systems

By similarity.

Subunit structure: Binds to filamentous actin (F-actin), but not to monomeric G-actin, independently of its phosphorylation status

By similarity.

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm

By similarity. Cell membrane

By similarity. Note: Associates with the membrane via the insertion of the N-terminal N-myristoyl chain and the partial insertion of the effector domain. Association of the effector domain with membranes may be regulated by Ca2+/calmodulin

By similarity. In prostate cancers, detected in the cytoplasm and associated with apical or basal membranes

By similarity.

Post-translational modification: Phosphorylation at Ser-120 and Thr-178 are non-redundantly catalyzed by MAPK8 in vivo. Phosphorylation at Thr-148 is preferentially catalyzed by MAPK8 in vivo, but this modification can also be catalyzed by other kinases in the absence of MAPK8

By similarity.

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the MARCKS family.

Product Notes

The MARCKSL1 marcksl1 (Catalog #AAA647650) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The MARCKSL1, CT (MARCKSL1, MLP, MRP, MARCKS-related protein, MARCKS-like protein 1, Macrophage myristoylated alanine-rich C kinase substrate) reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's MARCKSL1 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, ELISA (EL/EIA), Western Blot (WB). Suitable for use in Western Blot, ELISA Dilution: ELISA: 1:1,000 Western Blot: 1:100-500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the MARCKSL1 marcksl1 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "MARCKSL1, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
