NCBI Description

LexA autocleavage, stimulated by RecA, of the first 84 aa of LexA removes the DNA binding region and is required to activate the SOS response. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10533]. LexA is a protein that belongs to the LexA family . [More information is available at EcoCyc: EG10533].

Uniprot Description

Represses a number of genes involved in the response to DNA damage (SOS response), including recA and lexA. Binds to the 16 bp palindromic sequence 5'-CTGTATATATATACAG-3'. In the presence of single-stranded DNA, RecA interacts with LexA causing an autocatalytic cleavage which disrupts the DNA-binding part of LexA, leading to derepression of the SOS regulon and eventually DNA repair. Implicated in hydroxy radical-mediated cell death induced by hydroxyurea treatment (PubMed:20005847).The SOS response controls an apoptotic-like death (ALD) induced (in the absence of the mazE-mazF toxin-antitoxin module) in response to DNA damaging agents that is mediated by RecA and LexA (PubMed:22412352).

Product Notes

The lexA lexa (Catalog #AAA6485047) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The LexA, DNA-Binding Region (PE) reacts with E Coli and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's LexA, DNA-Binding Region can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunoprecipitation (IP), Western Blot (WB). IP: 5ug immunoprecipitates LexA-pRB from 500ug LexA-pRB transfected yeast lysate. Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. WB: 0.1-1ug/ml; Detects LexA-pRB in LexA-pRB transfected yeast lysate. LexA-pRB-transfected yeast cell lysate was resolved by electrophoresis, transferred to nitrocellulose and probed with.1ug/ml). Proteins were visualized using an IgG (HRP) goat anti-rabbit and a chemiluminescence detection system. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the lexA lexa for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "LexA, DNA-Binding Region, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
