Goat anti Human Immunodeficiency Virus 1 gp120 antibody recognizes gp120, an exterior envelope glycoprotein on the surface of the virus particle that acts as a receptor for CD4 and chemokine receptors on macrophages and T-lymphocytes. It does not react with human T cells, B cells, normal bovine serum or normal human serum. In western blotting a predominant gp120 band is observed.

Envelope glycoprotein gp160: Oligomerizes in the host endoplasmic reticulum into predominantly trimers. In a second time, gp160 transits in the host Golgi, where glycosylation is completed. The precursor is then proteolytically cleaved in the trans-Golgi and thereby activated by cellular furin or furin-like proteases to produce gp120 and gp41.
