NCBI Description

Sahai (1983) [PubMed 6825316] demonstrated phosphate-activated glutaminase (EC 3.5.1.2) in human platelets. It is the major enzyme yielding glutamate from glutamine. Significance of the enzyme derives from its possible implication in behavior disturbances in which glutamate acts as a neurotransmitter (Prusiner, 1981). High heritability of platelet glutaminase was indicated by studies of Sahai and Vogel (1983) [PubMed 6682827] who found an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.96 for monozygotic twins and 0.53 for dizygotic twins.[supplied by OMIM]

Uniprot Description

glutaminase: Catalyzes the first reaction in the primary pathway for the renal catabolism of glutamine. Plays a role in maintaining acid-base homeostasis. Regulates the levels of the neurotransmitter glutamate in the brain. Isoform 2 lacks catalytic activity. Belongs to the glutaminase family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - arginine and proline; Hydrolase; Mitochondrial; Amino Acid Metabolism - alanine, aspartate and glutamate; Other Amino Acids Metabolism - D-Glutamine and D-glutamate; Energy Metabolism - nitrogen; EC 3.5.1.2

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2q32-q34

Cellular Component: mitochondrion; mitochondrial matrix; cytosol

Molecular Function: protein binding; glutaminase activity

Biological Process: synaptic transmission; glutamate secretion; suckling behavior; neurotransmitter secretion; glutamine catabolic process; neurological control of breathing; glutamate biosynthetic process; amino acid biosynthetic process; protein homotetramerization

Product Notes

The GLS gls (Catalog #AAA6478220) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Glutaminase, Kidney Isoform, Mitochondrial, CT (GLS, GLS1, AAD20, DKFZp686O15119, FLJ10358, K-glutaminase, KIAA0838, L-glutamine Amidohydrolase) (AP) reacts with Human, Mouse and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Glutaminase can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), ELISA (EIA). WB: 1:100-1:500 ELISA: 1:1,000 Applications are based on unconjugated antibody. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the GLS gls for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Glutaminase, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
