NCBI Description

The protein encoded by this gene is a surface antigen that is preferentially expressed on monocytes/macrophages. It cooperates with other proteins to mediate the innate immune response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2010]

Uniprot Description

CD14: Cooperates with MD-2 and TLR4 to mediate the innate immune response to bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Acts via MyD88, TIRAP and TRAF6, leading to NF-kappa-B activation, cytokine secretion and the inflammatory response. Up-regulates cell surface molecules, including adhesion molecules.

Protein type: Membrane protein, GPI anchor

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5q31.1

Cellular Component: anchored to external side of plasma membrane; endosome membrane; extracellular region; extracellular space; Golgi apparatus; lipid raft; lipopolysaccharide receptor complex; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: lipopolysaccharide binding; opsonin receptor activity; peptidoglycan receptor activity; protein binding

Biological Process: apoptosis; cell surface receptor linked signal transduction; I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; inflammatory response; innate immune response; lipopolysaccharide-mediated signaling pathway; MyD88-dependent toll-like receptor signaling pathway; MyD88-independent toll-like receptor signaling pathway; negative regulation of MyD88-independent toll-like receptor signaling pathway; phagocytosis; positive regulation of cytokine secretion; positive regulation of endocytosis; positive regulation of interferon type I production; positive regulation of interferon-gamma production; positive regulation of tumor necrosis factor production; receptor-mediated endocytosis; response to electrical stimulus; response to ethanol; response to heat; response to magnesium ion; toll-like receptor 4 signaling pathway

Product Notes

The CD14 cd14 (Catalog #AAA421195) is an Antibody produced from Goat and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Goat anti-CD14 Antibody reacts with Tested: Human; Expected from sequence similarity: Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CD14 can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Peptide ELISA (EIA), Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemistry (IHC). Peptide ELISA: Antibody detection limit dilution 1: 128000. Immunohistochemistry: In paraffin embedded Human Spleen shows strong clustered staining in some splenocytes. Recommended concentration, 4-6ug/ml. Western Blot: Approx 55kDa band observed in Human Lung, Lymph Node and Tonsil lysates (calculated MW of 40.1kDa according to NP_000582.1). The observed molecular weight corresponds to earlier findings in literature with different antibodies (Funda et al, Infect Immun.2001 Jun;69(6): 3772-81; PMID: 11349042). Recommended concentration: 1-3ug/ml. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD14 cd14 for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. The amino acid sequence is listed below: KRVDADADPR QYAD. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD14, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
