Specificity
This item detects human CD11c, also known as integrin alpha X (ITGAX). Integrins are integral cell-surface proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. CD11c combines with the beta 2 chain (ITGB2) to form a leukocyte-specific integrin referred to as inactivated-C3b (iC3b) receptor 4 (CR4). CD11c is 150kD in size, and is expressed predominantly on tissue macrophages and dendritic cells.

CD11c binds a myriad of ligands including cell adhesion molecules (e.g. ICAM-1, ICAM-4), bacterial cell wall components (LPS), complement protein (iC3b), and matrix proteins such as fibrogen and collagen. In light of this, CD11c has a number of functions including phagocytosis, cell migration, and cytokine production by macrophages/monocytes, as well as induction of T cell proliferation by Langerhans cells.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes the integrin alpha X chain protein. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. This protein combines with the beta 2 chain (ITGB2) to form a leukocyte-specific integrin referred to as inactivated-C3b (iC3b) receptor 4 (CR4). The alpha X beta 2 complex seems to overlap the properties of the alpha M beta 2 integrin in the adherence of neutrophils and monocytes to stimulated endothelium cells, and in the phagocytosis of complement coated particles. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2013]

Uniprot Description

ITGAX: Integrin alpha-X/beta-2 is a receptor for fibrinogen. It recognizes the sequence G-P-R in fibrinogen. It mediates cell-cell interaction during inflammatory responses. It is especially important in monocyte adhesion and chemotaxis. Belongs to the integrin alpha chain family.

Product Notes

The CD11c itgax (Catalog #AAA221513) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. AAA Biotech's CD11c can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Immunohistology Paraffin*. Immunohistology - Paraffin: Minimum Dilution: 5; Maximum Dilution: 15ug/ml; Application Note: This product requires antigen retrieval using heat treatment prior to staining of paraffin sections. Sodium citrate buffer pH 6.0 is recommended for this purpose. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CD11c itgax for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CD11c, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
