Rabbit anti-Human Cathepsin B Polyclonal Antibody | anti-CTSB antibody
Anti-Cathepsin B Antibody
Background: Cathepsin B is an enzymatic protein belonging to the peptidase or protease families. In humans, it is coded by the CTSB gene. And this gene is mapped to chromosome 8p22. The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase composed of a dimer of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. It is a member of the peptidase C1 family. Cathepsin B was once suspected as a candidate protease participating in the conversion of beta-amyloid precursor protein into the amyloid plaques found in Alzheimer's disease patients. However, this function is now known to be mediated by BACE1 protease. It is now thought that cathepsin B can degrade beta-amyloid precursor protein into harmless fragments. Thus, it is conceivable cathepsin B may play a pivotal role in the natural defense against Alzheimer's disease. Overexpression of cathepsin B has been associated with esophageal adenocarcinoma and other tumors. At least five transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. The standard product used in this kit is recombinant human Cathepsin B with the molecular mass of 37KDa.
NCBI and Uniprot Product Information
NCBI Description
The protein encoded by this gene is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase composed of a dimer of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains, both produced from a single protein precursor. It is also known as amyloid precursor protein secretase and is involved in the proteolytic processing of amyloid precursor protein (APP). Incomplete proteolytic processing of APP has been suggested to be a causative factor in Alzheimer disease, the most common cause of dementia. Overexpression of the encoded protein, which is a member of the peptidase C1 family, has been associated with esophageal adenocarcinoma and other tumors. At least five transcript variants encoding the same protein have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Uniprot Description
CTSB: Thiol protease which is believed to participate in intracellular degradation and turnover of proteins. Has also been implicated in tumor invasion and metastasis. Dimer of a heavy chain and a light chain cross-linked by a disulfide bond. Interacts with SRPX2. Belongs to the peptidase C1 family.

Product Notes
The CTSB ctsb (Catalog #AAA176815) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The Anti-Cathepsin B Antibody reacts with Human and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's Cathepsin B can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB). Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CTSB ctsb for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "Cathepsin B, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.Precautions
