Function: Calcium-sensitive protein which reversibly blocks the barbed ends of actin filaments but does not sever preformed actin filaments. May play an important role in macrophage function. May play a role in regulating cytoplasmic and/or nuclear structures through potential interactions with actin. May bind DNA.
Subunit Structure: Interacts with NUP62 (PubMed:18266911). Interacts with NUTF2 and RAN; involved in CAPG nuclear import (PubMed:18266911).
Post-translational Modifications: The N-terminus is blocked.
Similarity: Belongs to the villin/gelsolin family.

NCBI Description

This gene encodes a member of the gelsolin/villin family of actin-regulatory proteins. The encoded protein reversibly blocks the barbed ends of F-actin filaments in a Ca2+ and phosphoinositide-regulated manner, but does not sever preformed actin filaments. By capping the barbed ends of actin filaments, the encoded protein contributes to the control of actin-based motility in non-muscle cells. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

Uniprot Description

Calcium-sensitive protein which reversibly blocks the barbed ends of actin filaments but does not sever preformed actin filaments. May play an important role in macrophage function. May play a role in regulating cytoplasmic and/or nuclear structures through potential interactions with actin. May bind DNA.CautionThis protein was originally thought to be a DNA-binding protein with a helix-loop-helix domain.

Product Notes

The CAPG capg (Catalog #AAA9600002) is an Antibody produced from Rabbit and is intended for research purposes only. The product is available for immediate purchase. The CAPG Antibody reacts with Human, Mouse, Rat and may cross-react with other species as described in the data sheet. AAA Biotech's CAPG can be used in a range of immunoassay formats including, but not limited to, Western Blot (WB), Immunohistochemisty (IHC), Immunoflurescene (IF), Immunocytochemistry (ICC). WB: 1:500-1:2000 IHC: 1:50-1:200 IF/ICC: 1:100-1:500. Researchers should empirically determine the suitability of the CAPG capg for an application not listed in the data sheet. Researchers commonly develop new applications and it is an integral, important part of the investigative research process. It is sometimes possible for the material contained within the vial of "CAPG, Polyclonal Antibody" to become dispersed throughout the inside of the vial, particularly around the seal of said vial, during shipment and storage. We always suggest centrifuging these vials to consolidate all of the liquid away from the lid and to the bottom of the vial prior to opening. Please be advised that certain products may require dry ice for shipping and that, if this is the case, an additional dry ice fee may also be required.
